Breakfast: Gelo's Bagel Bakery

Ok, so yes we were in Puerto Rico, but we wanted good breakfast without paying an arm and a leg. Gelo's was it. They had some of the best eggs and toast (and of course bagels) I have had anywhere. The toast was very sweet tasting, very tasty. Their cappuchino was also outstanding. Don't go here looking for authentic Puerto Rican food, go here for authentic American breakfast!

Horseback Riding in El Yunque

So today we set out to Hacienda Carible, to go horseback riding through the El Yunque rainforest. Hacienda Carible is about 30 minutes East of Isla Verde, near the town of Luquillo. These horses are a special breed, referred to as "paso finos" meaning fine horses. These horses trot, as opposed to gallop, making them fairly gentle to ride.

My horses name was Carmel. Ana rode Negra. We had a great time riding through with another group who was from Miami.

Ever wanted to see a horse pee? One decided to do so while the guide was preparing to take our photos. Click here if you really want to see it :)

While riding through here, we skirted the set of the movie "The Argentine" which is currently being filmed there. For more on this move, click here.

Bacardi Factory Tour

After we cleaned up, we headed towards the Bacardi factory in Palo Seco, PR. Check out this view from Google Maps...

Now the Bacardi factory tour was awesome. Let's see why this rocked: 1. 2 Free Drinks. 2. Free Admission. Oh yeah, no charge to get in, and 2 free drinks. Sold!

Check out the iguana just roaming around the Bacardi parking lot! Casa Bacardi, nothing screams welcome home like that! In the 3rd picture it appears that they must be using the runoff to water their palm trees...

The tour was very entertaining. The original Bacardi family came from Cuba, expanded to Spain, New York and finally to Puerto Rico in 1953. They had many displays including some that let you smell their different blends, and even allowed you to smell the molasses they use to ferment into alcohol.

Dinner: Mi Casita

This quaint little spot is just 3 doors down from Gelo's Bagel Bakery in Isla Verde. The food here is absolutely outstanding. The service is hit or miss however. On this visit I had the Chicken Parmesan with tostones, and Ana had the Bistec Criollo, which is like a pot roast covered in onions and came with potatoes. Prices were very fair and the service was rather marginal. We did meet another couple there who shared some tips with places to visit and place to go to and not to go to.

We wound down the night at the rooftop bar, having a drink or two a piece.
